What is a gifted assessment?
A gifted assessment is a standardized evaluation of intellectual ability designed to determine whether a child meets the criteria for giftedness as defined by the Ontario Ministry of Education.
For parents who believe their child's intellectual needs are not being met in a regular classroom, or who want to pursue placement in a gifted program, a formal assessment by a registered psychologist is the required first step.
Why pursue a gifted assessment?
Gifted children are often misunderstood in regular educational settings. Their advanced intellectual needs can lead to boredom, underachievement, social difficulties, and emotional frustration when they are not appropriately challenged. Without formal identification, gifted children may go unrecognized and unsupported for years.
A gifted assessment provides objective, documented evidence of basic intellectual & academic abilities that families can use in discussions with their school board.
