What is a psychoeducational assessment?
A psychoeducational assessment is a comprehensive evaluation designed to understand how an individual learns, processes information, and performs academically. It examines cognitive abilities, academic achievement, memory, attention, processing speed, and other factors that influence learning and school or work performance.
When a child is struggling in school, falling behind peers, or showing signs of significant frustration with learning, a psychoeducational assessment can identify the specific reasons why and provide a clear path forward. For adults, it can finally explain lifelong challenges that were never formally identified.
What the assessment covers
A psychoeducational assessment at Mindframe includes an evaluation of general intellectual ability (IQ), academic achievement across reading, writing, and math, memory and learning, attention and executive functioning, language processing, and socio-emotional functioning as it relates to learning. The process begins with a clinical intake interview with parents and, when appropriate, the child, followed by structured testing sessions. One of our psychologists reviews all the results alongside teacher reports, school records, and other relevant history before producing the written report.

The report and next steps
The written report outlines an individual's unique profile of cognitive strengths and challenges, provides diagnostic conclusions where warranted, and offers specific, actionable recommendations for school support, intervention, and home strategies. Reports are accepted by all Ontario school boards and can be used to support an IEP, accommodations, access to specialized classrooms, and university or college accommodation plans.
