Confidential, trauma-informed psychological care for police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and corrections officers in Mississauga and across Ontario. Dr. Moraes understands this world because she has worked in it for many years.

First responders face psychological demands that most people will never encounter. Critical incidents, cumulative trauma, shift work, organizational stress, moral injury, and the culture of stoicism that pervades emergency services all create a unique and complex psychological landscape.
Dr. Moraes has 30 years of experience working as a clinician, including many years working within police services and correctional institutions. She does not need an introduction to the culture, the hierarchy, the language, or the specific ways that trauma manifests in these professions. That background allows her to engage authentically from the first session, without requiring you to explain what your job actually involves. We support all first responders, police, fire, EMS, and corrections.
Common psychological concerns among first responders, treated with an approach that respects the realities of the job.
Concerns about confidentiality are one of the most common barriers to help-seeking among first responders. Dr. Moraes wants to be clear: your sessions are confidential. She will not share information with your employer, union or department without your explicit written consent. There are limits to confidentiality required by law which she will discuss with you in the first session.
You are not obligated to disclose that you are attending therapy. Many first responders access psychological care privately through extended health benefits or private pay to maintain full control over their information.
Dr. Moraes uses evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), which is one of the most well-researched treatments for PTSD and Operational Stress Injury. CPT helps process the thoughts and meanings attached to traumatic experiences and has been validated extensively in first responder populations.
She also draws from CBT, ACT, and other modalities as appropriate to each client's needs and presentation.
The impact of first responder work extends to spouses, partners, and children. We provide therapy for family members affected by their loved one's occupational stress, as well as couples therapy where operational stress has strained the relationship.
